Integration options
Use the supported CLI contract to add workflows around Respire without depending on internal database structures or retrieval internals.
| Integration | Interface | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| External tool | CLI --json | Reports, exports and visualization |
| Hook | plugins.json event commands | Pre-write checks and post-operation notifications |
| Agent instructions | rsrs inject | Recall-before-work and save-after-work behavior |
| MCP | rsrs mcp over standard I/O | Supported memory tools for compatible clients |
| Agent Plugins package | plugin.json + mcp.json | One skill and MCP tools for hosts without a dedicated adapter |
| Desktop | Client 2 uses local Runtime RPC and restricted host actions | User interface over supported Runtime and CLI operations |
respire-general is the portable Agent Plugins 1.0 package: one Agent Skill plus a mcp.json entry for rsrs mcp, with no host hooks. On the first MCP start it checks rsrs inject --targets and writes the host instruction file only when the detected target is absent or stale; a current target is skipped. There is no install-time step because Agent Plugins has no post-install script. mcode has no rsrs inject target, so the portable package does not auto-inject there. Hosts with a dedicated adapter should use that adapter so recall and storage run from hooks.

| Rule | Reason |
|---|---|
| Parse machine output | Avoid coupling to translated display text |
| Keep account secrets private | Hooks and external tools need only their permitted inputs |
| Do not read internal database files | Storage format is not an integration API |
| Make side effects explicit | Export, import and plugin execution have different effects |
| Use matching SDK artifacts | Match the target, toolchain, ABI and manifest hashes |
